Meeting the Merrell Twins
By Terry Dy
Mothers will do anything for their children. So when my girls, Trista and Aryanna, said that their ultimate wish was to meet the Merrell twins, I found myself in line at 6 in the morning to register for their last meet-and-greet before they headed home. The Merrell twins were here as part of this year’s stellar line up for YouTube FanFest Manila 2018, an exclusive live show showcasing the biggest YouTube stars from all over the world, co-presented by Globe Telecom.
A day before the meet-and-greet, I tried to ask friends for passes but they said that it was already too late. I didn’t know what exactly I had to do in order to make their dreams come true, but I knew I had to find a way. My daughter’s birthday is coming up, and she said she wanted nothing more than to catch a glimpse of her favorite YouTuber.
Why we love them
While I was in line, I decided to watch videos by the Merrell twins, and I finally understood why they wanted to meet them so desperately. I was hooked! No wonder my girls love them.
1 They share life lessons on being a teen, and the best thing about it is that they set a good example for their viewers.
2 With the overwhelming number of YouTube channels, the difficulty lies in screening what your children watch. The Merrell Twins videos promote positivity, keeping their videos light and with a wholesome vibe. Watching their videos is actually a great bonding opportunity for me and my daughters.
3 They use their channel to inspire and empower young girls by sharing their knowledge and experiences, and by simply being honest and staying true to who they really are.
About the twins
The 21-year-old Merrell twins have over three million subscribers in YouTube and over a million followers on Instagram, proving that age does not limit you from following your dreams. Success, however, didn’t come so easily. At 16, they moved to LA from Missouri to pursue acting and music. They weren’t getting any parts, but, through YouTube, they managed to find a way to put themselves out there and showcase their talents. Did their success happen overnight? No. They worked hard for nearly six years to get where they are today.
I’m grateful that my girls have people like the Merrell twins to look up to. Vanessa and Veronica have found the value of patience and working hard in order to achieve their dreams. Like they said, “it takes a long time and it’s not a thing that happens overnight, [But] when you put in hard work, time and commitment, it will pay off.”
Thank you to their producer, It’s A Girl Thing, who continually paves the way to inspire, educate and empower teenage girls by bringing in powerful and insightful talks and performances.
