Breastfeeding made chic

Breastfeeding made chic

“Can you please design something so that when I am at work, hindi ako mahihiya mag breastfeed?”

Fashion designer Rajo Laurel recounts her sister’s request. “I kept on asking questions. I didn’t realize that there is so much stigma about feeding babies in public. So as a designer, I learned so much. I have to make sure that the people I am designing for are not only comfortable, but beautiful as well.”

For this collaboration, Rajo created a stylish wrap for mothers to feel confident and comfortable when feeding their baby, and can be worn in four different ways. Rajo also launched a classy baby bag in his collection along with the mother wrap. It was designed as a baby bag but fashionable enough for mothers to use as their personal handbag.

A special collaboration

The task at hand all started when Philips Avent approached Rajo Laurel for a project. “We at  Filipinas have always been inspired with the works of Rajo. Our collaboration with him is our source of pride and joy. We know this will be successful. It will enable Filipino moms to breastfeed longer and comfortably,” shares Pia Umayam, Philips Personal Health lead.

The stylish wrap comes in a chic neutral shade of gray. It can be worn from day to night, on casual days and formal events, too.

Along with the breastfeeding wrap, Rajo was also asked to design a diaper bag. He went back to his sister and he took her comments to heart, “Kailangan maraming pockets and malalim. You’ll see everything. It has to be light. Dark baby bags are difficult, nawawala mga gamit sa. So we designed a light bag so you can find everything.”

Gift for moms

“It’s my way of thanking all of nephews and nieces, my mom and all the mothers out there. It’s a gift for all of you, so you can take it home, so you can actually nurse longer and feed longer,” Rajo explains.

The Rajo X Philips Avent wrap and diaper bag set helps moms to “understand the benefits of breastfeeding, provide them meaningful innovations, and to support breastfeed longer—even after when they return to work,” adds Umayam.
