As a mother of three—soon to be four—I rely heavily on products that simplify my life, make it easier, or add more fun to it. Here is a roundup of some of my “can’t-live-without” items.
With so many children under one roof, our house is a hotbed of germs that gets passed back and forth, and up and down between seven people: my three kids, myself, my husband, and my two helpers. Now, I’m not averse to germs. I believe that kids need to be exposed to dirt, grime, and germs to build up a healthy immune system that can cope with today’s deluge of harmful bacteria and viruses. But, I do feel we need some protection when the kids are bringing home germs on a daily basis. Once an illness slips through and infects one of us, the likelihood of it being passed around from person to person in my house is almost 100 percent.
UV Care (uvcare.net) has been a game changer. It helps to control these germs, viruses, bacteria, microorganisms, pathogens, and airborne allergens that exist in my house. All products use germicidal UV-C light without harmful ozone (O3) gas. UV-C is one of only few technologies that can kill 99.9% of invisible bacteria and viruses (including H1N1, E. Coli, MRSA) as well as mold, dust mites, fleas, bed bugs and their eggs. I use the portable germ zapper to sterilize all the rooms in my house once a week. After a couple of months I’ve really experienced the difference. Less sniffles and sickness being passed from kid to kid. I can’t wait to start using my pocket sterilizer when my baby gets here. I’m more meticulous about sterilizing objects and surfaces that my baby will come into contact with.
Ecomom (mightybaby.ph) is the first of its kind to sterilize and eliminate 99.9% of bacteria using UV-C light. For the first 5 years of motherhood I used regular steam sterilizers. When Lila came along I switched to Eco Mom and life has been easier ever since. Most sterilizers get put away once the baby reaches toddlerhood. But we use Eco Mom every day since Lila was born. Nowadays we use it to sterilize toys and cutlery. In a few weeks it will be back to sterilizing baby items like bottles, nipples, and so on. I love products that grow with a family.
ORIBEL VertiPlay™ Wall Toys
Lila loves playing with her Oribel VertiPlay™ Wall Toys (@oribelph). I love them because they don’t take up space or make an unsightly mess. Oribel toys have been designed to meet important development benefits such as development of gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and hand-eye coordination. As I mentioned I don’t allow my children to use gadget so I’m always on the hunt for toys and activities that spark my little one’s imagination.
I travel with my kids almost every month. In the last year and a half I have been flying with the three of them by myself. You can imagine that it’s not easy to fly with three kids aged 3 to 8 years old. I don’t allow my kids any gadget time at home. But I have no choice on airplanes, especially when I’m traveling alone with them. BuddyPhones have been a lifesaver for me. They are made from durable, robust materials, which can be bent and pulled in every direction, and are less likely to snap if they are dropped or twisted. They are soft and flexible to withstand pulling yet sturdy enough to hold their shape. They are compatible with your gadgets as well as some airplane plugs. Luckily, they work on Singapore Airlines flights, which is what we use from Singapore to Manila. Buddyphones are available at Rustan’s and Toys ‘R Us.
ORGANIC LOLLIPOPS PAJAMAS
Lollipops organic pajamas (@lollipops_clothing) are the softest pajamas my kids have ever had. They are so comfy that my kids ask to wear them over and over again because they are soft on the skin and breathable, too!
FRANK GREEN SMARTCUPS
I’ve been consciously reducing my use of plastic for over a decade. I’m never without my stainless steel water bottle or reusable shopping bags. My newest must-have are these smartcups that my husband can use for his coffee. I use them for my smoothies. My kids use them for their milk or water. I bring my Frank Green cups (@frankgreenphilippines) to my smoothie shop and ask them to put my drink in them. My kids have grown up knowing that single use plastics and disposables are bad for the environment. Education and awareness needs to be ingrained from an early age.
THERMO FINDER PLUS
We couldn’t live without our Thermofinder Plus (@thermofinderplus). I love it because it’s very reliable, fast, and accurate. The best part is that I don’t have to wake up the kids or touch them or turn on the light to check their temperatures. This is helpful when they feel sick and I want them to be able to rest.
