Barbie turns 60

Everyone’s favorite doll celebrates her 60th birthday this month with an inspiring Saturday afternoon at SM North EDSA The Block. The official distributor of Mattel Toys, Richprime Global Inc., awarded outstanding Filipino women from different fields last March 9. They were chosen for their achievements, serving as inspiration to little girls all over the world.

These 10 women were presented with awards given by Richprime Global Inc. President and CEO Myrna Yao, along with her daughters Richprime’s Managing Director Liza Yao and Vice President Jane Yao. Along with the awards, each of the ladies also shared an inspiring quote to empower little girls:

Part of the program included a fashion show with little girls dressed in the many possible dreams they can be when they grow up. A Barbie doll exhibit was showcased that afternoon, along with doll house installations for different personalities for the little girls to enjoy, make believe, and do role play.

As an added treat this month, the whole country celebrates the iconic Barbie’s 60th birthday with pink illumination lights around the metro. Landmarks such as the Rizal Park, the Dancing Fountain, the City Hall and the Post Office in Manila, the Quezon Memorial Circle and the Dancing Fountain in Quezon City, the City Hall (People’s Park in Valenzuela City), pedestrian lanes inside Eastwood City, and the SM Mall of Asia Globe Centerpiece will be dress up in pretty pink lights.
