Chynna Ortaleza shares why her maternity shoot is filled with books. Plus, her reading recommendations!

Maternity shoots are getting more and more creative, with an artistic team behind each amazing theme. The latest one that caught our attention is Chynna Ortaleza-Cipriano’s, shot by Nice Print Photography and conceptualized by Rabbit Hole Creatives.

In a post by the set design company: “Lara told us about a story. About a man who built a fortress. An enclave. Walls upon walls of paper pressed upon another. Each page a wealth of information. A womb of knowledge. Here sh stands in a corner of her old man’s collection. Enveloped in his memory. In his embrace. As she cradles a new life inside her.”

The soon-to-be mom-of-two Chynna also revealed, in an exclusive interview, the story behind this nostalgic shoot that’s filled with books, “Apart from being a maternity shoot, this is Kean’s and my way of paying homage to my father. We shot it with the books that he left me in the background.”

A heartfelt caption was composed in her first Instagram post:
Papa.
You never really left. I feel your energy in every book that you left in my care. The boy in my womb will be born into this wealth of literature. May I be able to pass down your unending romance with books to your grandchild.
Overwhelmed but Hopeful. ~Lara Serena~

Her second post is dedicated to her daughter:
You looked for her just hours before you left us.
She looks for you too.
She often asks if you can come down from heaven.
Do any of these books hold the answer?
One of these days she will discover the answer.

Now, this wasn’t the first time Chynna had books included in her milestone events. “Her dad was a book lover, which she wants to pass on to her kids. Even her baby shower had a book theme, cute!” added Charisse Tinio of Nice Print Photography. Chynna reaffirmed by revealing that she is a bibliophile, “A quality that developed because of Papa’s influence. He taught me to respect the genius of storytellers & to keep on feeding my imagination at a tender age. I want to pass the same appreciation for literature to my children. So that Papa’s legacy will continue.”

Of course, we couldn’t resist asking her what her favorite books are. Here they are:

1. Letters To A Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke
A beautiful correspondence between mentor & mentee. We learn from each other & this is the wisdom the book imparts.

2. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
A novel I came across during a time in my life when I’d let fear take over my pursuit of dreams. This book gave me the reason to pull through.

3. The Sandman: The Graphic Novels by Neil Gaiman
The Lord of Dreams, his sister Death & their siblings and so many imaginative stories in a series. A must in every library.

We also asked what three books she’d read to her children:

1. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
Metamorphosis. Presented in a simple way that children can appreciate

2.  Charlie & The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl
An adventure of a lifetime laced with a valuable lesson in humility & integrity.

3. Grimm’s Fairy Tales by The Brother’s Grimm
Everybody needs a collection of beautifully written stories & this one is a great collection for toddlers.
