Education Secretary Leonor Briones announced through the DepEd Memorandum No. 83 series of 2019 that the department will observe a nationwide Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd One Health Week.
From July 22 to 26, six major school health programs will be featured in the One Health Week, namely the School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP), the National Drug Education Program (NDEP); the Adolescent Reproductive Health (ARH) Program; the Water and Sanitation, and Hygiene Facilities (WASH) in Schools (WinS) Program; the Medical, Nursing, and Dental Services; and the School Mental Health Program.
To add, other related activities like feeding, gardening, exhibits on the NDEP, ARH, mental health, and open house of canteens featuring healthy food and beverage choices may also be conducted by schools.
During the One Health Week, Briones directed all regional offices (ROS), school division offices (SDOs), and elementary and secondary schools to manage activities like orientation of parents, communities, partners, and other stakeholders; delivery of age-appropriate health services; and launching of age-appropriate health and hygiene practices.
To signal the start of the One Health Week and also gain the support of partners and stakeholders, Briones advised the ROs and SDOs to conduct kick-off activities on or before July 22, adding that schools should coordinate with their division health personnel in conducting their activities.
The Bureau of Learner Support Services-School Dental Health Division is scheduled to lead the national kick-off of One Health Week on July 24.
