Popstar Talia Concio turns 7

By Jane Kingsu-Cheng | Photos by Nice Print Photo

Maria Talia Concio of the @conciosisters had an advanced birthday celebration last December 16. Her actual birthday falls on December 28, and we all know how challenging it is to organize parties during the holiday season. “We celebrated it early so her classmates will still be in town,” shares mommy Carla. Initial plans were to fly off to Korea for her birthday, but her mom revealed that Talia requested for a birthday party at the last minute. “The theme is popstar. She wanted a Beanie Boo bears theme, but it was impossible to put it together since we had only 2 months. So I thought of popstar, since it is so Talia. She happily agreed.”

According to mommy Carla, Talia is their little rockstar. “She’s also an artist by heart. She hears a song, then she plays it on the piano. She gets the first three notes without anyone teaching her,” shares the proud mom. So it was no surprise that the birthday girl requested to dance on stage. “It was her idea. She chose the song ‘Middle’ by Zedd Grey. Talia is our little dancer. She has the spunk and the moves.” This part of the program where she got to sing and dance is her mom’s favorite part of the party.

One can see how giddy Talia was when she made her grand entrance, “She went down the stairs and all her friends were downstairs,

Joel Cruz Meets his 8th son Ziv

By Jane Kingsu-Cheng

Joel Cruz posted a video of him carrying his 8th son on his Instagram account just a week ago, so Moms & Babies took the opportunity to interview the doting father of eight.

Ziv Santos Cruz was born on the 6th of November in St. Petersburg, Russia. “Ziv is a biblical name of Hebrew origin. It means brilliance,” explains Cruz. When asked what his routine is when he meets his babies for the first time, he reveals that “The first thing I do is to carry him, kiss him, introduce myself as his daddy! I apologize for not seeing them right away, because I see them either after 1 or 2 weeks, or sometimes 4 weeks. I feed them, take pictures and videos, and in silence, I pray to Him for another gift of a wonderful, precious baby which will give me so much happiness and fulfilment as a father!”

Errands in Russia

Cruz also shared that he stays there for about 5 – 10 days, and does his errands in preparation for Ziv’s arrival to Manila. “I usually have my stem cell treatment, work on some documentations in different Ministry and in Moscow, meet Konstantin Svitnev (the owner of Rosjur consulting firm), finalize payments, and visit several ministries and Philippine embassy for my children’s documents.”

Mom shares her love for felt with toys from Play Factory

By Jane Kingsu-Cheng | Family portrait by Luxe Photography Inc.

Mom-of-two Joyce Lee-Syki is into felt fabric. “I love the colors and you can turn them into anything! I designed our Magnetic Fishing Sets and we had them as giveaways for my son’s first birthday. A few friends mentioned that I could sell them too and that’s how it started. We introduced Mr. Skelly, the Christmas trees and then the Christmas Alphabet and Numerical ornaments after that.”

Joyce Lee-Syki is behind Play Factory.

Joyce helps out in her husband Rocky’s family business, and finds time to channel her creativity with Play Factory. They released the skeleton-and-organs set last September, and recently launched their holiday collection: “My daughter was in the possessive phase when we were planning our product designs for Christmas. Everything she saw was hers, so I thought, ‘Okay, why not let her have her own tree then?’”

Read on to find out how this three month-old brand encourages learning through play:

Why the name Play Factory?

We advocate play-based learning, hence the name Play Factory. Kids nowadays go to school so young, some at age 2, and are assessed early on based on their ability to write, read, and know certain concepts. The intent of our toys is for kids to learn through play; for them to do away with structured academic activities, at least at home, and encourage creativity, discovery, and imagination while learning.

A father’s mission: Make Christmas extra special

By Arner Ang

As a young boy, I looked forward to what my parents would get me for Christmas. Would it be a new toy or a gadget perhaps? For a time, I was the center of the world. Everything stopped as I played, without any cares, and with an unbridled exuberance that anything was possible. But as time passed, that gift would be put aside and lose its shine. My parents had to leave the country to work abroad, there was no one to play with and share the experience.

Fond memories with dad

When I look back on my life, my fondest memories are those spent with my dad. Before he had to work abroad, he took time out from his busy schedule, his night out with friends and his own interests, to spend it with me. A day in the park, kicking around a new soccer ball, or throwing that frisbee is forever etched in my memory as a time that I felt important, liked and loved by my dad. Each time I recall those occasions, I am still filled with happiness.

The presence of a father

With so much distraction in the world, from social media, TV, friends, relatives, our children are constantly bombarded with ideas of who they are, and what they are worth. When fathers speak and spend time with children, it tells them who they are and how much they are valued. They already know their mothers love them.

Richard Gutierrez’s tips for busy parents

By Kristelle Bechayda

One of the hardest challenges of parenting is balancing your time between work and family. During the digital media conference of Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry Fantastica: The Princess, The Prince, and the Perya, actor Richard Gutierrez gives these tips for busy parents like him:

1. Set your priorities

2. Time management

3. Communication with your partner

4. Planning ahead

Richard, who is a big family man, finds it important to spend time with his family as much as possible. In fact, he takes every opportunity he gets to bond with them. We can only imagine the actor looking forward to Christmas, where he will be spending it with his whole family at his parents’ (Eddie Gutierrez and Annabelle Rama) house.

As for his sentiments towards his upcoming film with Vice Ganda and Dingdong Dantes, he finds it to be a good family movie. “Alam natin si Vice, once a year gumawa (ng pelikula), tuwing Pasko. She makes sure talagang pang buong pamilya ‘yung tipong pelikulang gagawin niya.” he says.

He adds that is one factor that prompted him to accept the project.
